(WGNO) – The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on two disturbances in the Atlantic — both are moving west and northwest at about 10-15 mph.

WGNO Meteorologist Hank Allen, said the current focus is on disturbance #1. As of Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center said the low pressure area had a 50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone (depression or storm) over the next 48 hours as it heads towards the Lesser Antilles and the Caribbean.

Allen admitted the disturbance does look more impressive today but warns there is no organized system yet. “So any models that you are seeing are basically working off of nothing at this point. It is possible that a storm develops and moves into the gulf at some point next week, however it is all just speculation at this point.”

Allen asks Louisianians “to not get worked up over any images of models that you see posted around social media.”

However, you should have your hurricane preps ready as we head toward the peak of the season.

As always, WGNO will keep tabs on this disturbance and monitor the Caribbean and the Gulf, if need be.
