NHC Monitoring Two Tropical Disturbances in the Atlantic

(WGNO) – The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on two disturbances in the Atlantic — both are moving west and northwest at about 10-15 mph.

WGNO Meteorologist Jeff Robbins, said the current focus is on disturbance #1. At the moment, it has the 30% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone (depression or storm) over the next 48 hours and the 40% chance over the next 5 days as it heads towards the Lesser Antilles and the Caribbean.

As of Tuesday, the disturbance is disorganized showers and thunderstorms, but the upper level winds are forecast to become more conducive (less wind shear) for development.

Robbins said it is too soon to depict a track or intention of the cluster of storms until it forms into a tropical system.

As always, WGNO will keep tabs on this disturbance and monitor the Caribbean and the Gulf, if need be.

As far as disturbance #2. Robbins said it’s just too soon to tell if any disturbance will disturb us.

Until then, put the “Do Not Disturb” sign on New Orleans.
