6PM Weather Update: Beautiful now but New Year’s Eve weather could be rainy

10:00 PM

Our forecast for the overnight hours likely ranges from 40s across Northshore locations to 50s across Southshore locations, so bundle up upon stepping outside early tomorrow. Fog will be becoming an issue, especially throughout Kentwood and spots beyond Lake Pontchartrain. Rain in our area, likely even a severe weather threat, returns Wednesday, Thursday with yet another cold front bring us nice conditions by New Year’s Day.

6:00 PM

It has been a gorgeous, warm day today across southeast Louisiana and New Orleans proper as temperatures remain in upper 60s – low 70s. This is the theme again tomorrow afternoon, so layers will be best. Right now, rain looks most likely Thursday as yet another cold front progresses east from the west. We are keeping an eye on evolving details, which’ll be becoming more clear over these next 24 hours.

11:30 AM

Temperatures are already in the upper 60s to around 70 and will stay there through the afternoon. A beautiful couple of days to start the week.

Still looking at rain on Thursday with a severe weather threat.

7:30 AM

A beautiful start to the week is on the way as we wrap up the last few days of 2020. Temperatures are starting chilly Monday morning but will be warming up quickly by later in the morning to the low 60s.

Look for upper 60s through the afternoon with some spots reaching 70 for the high. Add in plenty of sun and it will be a fantastic day. More of that is on the way for Tuesday so take advantage before changes move in.

Right now it looks like a potent storm system will be moving across the country to close out the year. This system will bring rain and storms into the area for Thursday and Thursday night.

At the moment there is a chance for severe weather with this. However there is still a question as to where the strongest storms may develop and how much coverage we see.

This is something that is worth following over the next few days. Right now it looks like all the rain and storms push east by Friday as cooler weather moves in through the upcoming weekend.
