OTTAWA, Canada — A massive sinkhole formed Wednesday in downtown Ottawa, Canada, swallowing a parked van and promoting evacuations of a major shopping center and the Westin Hotel.
Overnight, truck poured concrete into the sinkhole in an attempt to stabilize the nearly three-story deep hole, reports CBC News.
Crews continue to monitor the integrity of the road and sidewalks around the hole which open unexpectedly about 10:30 a.m. on Rideau Street near the construction site of Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit.
No word on what caused the collapse.
Ottawa Police said a water main break and a gas leak were also reported in the area.
No injuries have been reported.
