(CNN) — Family, fans and friends are mourning the death of Ben Woolf, an actor from the most recent season of “American Horror Story,” who died on Monday in Los Angeles.

Woolf played the character of Meep, a dwarf who only spoke with one word, on “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that he had been hit by a car’s side mirror in an accident on Thursday night in Hollywood.

The actor, who was diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism, was sent to the hospital that night, and reportedly stabilized over the weekend before passing Monday afternoon, according to TMZ.

CNN obtained a family statement which said, “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all over the world for our beloved Ben. He touched so many hearts in his 34 years. His memory will live on within each of us and within his work.”

His publicists at ZTPR added, “Ben was one-of-a-kind, and will never be forgotten… The time we all shared together will be remembered forever.”

When the “Freak Show” season began, the FX network put together several short videos about the actors on the show, including one on Woolf, who talked about his condition, how people responded to him and about his love of teaching.

“Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy called him “one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met.”

Woolf was 34 years old.
