Pedestrian struck, killed in Mid-City, I-10 on-ramp shut down

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The eastbound lane of the I-10 on-ramp near Howard Avenue was closed after a fatal accident Wednesday (Feb. 22) evening.

Around 8:30 p.m., the New Orleans Police Department responded to the scene in Mid-City, where they learned a man was struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.


Details released by the NOPD Thursday morning indicate the man was trying to cross the on-ramp when he was struck by a white Kia Optima heading east. We’re told the driver remained on scene and cooperated with police in the investigation.

The man’s identity has not yet been released by the Orleans Parish Coroner.

This was Wednesday’s second deadly traffic incident after a woman driving a motor scooter at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Iberville Street collided with an oncoming vehicle. she was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
