NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tulane University welcomed a new addition to its’ baseball program. Travis Jewett is the University’s new head baseball coach.

Jewett spent the last four years at Vanderbilt University. The 46 year old has never been a Division I head coach, but he has a strong baseball portfolio.

He helped the Commodores to two College World Series in his first three seasons.

He’s a former Junior College Coach of the Year at Edmonds (Washington) Community College. Since then, he has been an assistant at Gonzaga, Washington, Washington State, Arizona State and Vanderbilt.

In 2016, Jewett was promoted to associate head coach under Tim Corbin at Vanderbilt. The Commodores finished 43-19 and the sluggers led the SEC in triples while ranking eighth nationally in the category.

Jewett said he chose Tulane because he appreciates and values the higher education.

He will take over a program coming off of two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Regionals and the 2016 regular season AAC championship.

“We’re more than capable of getting to Omaha, and not only getting to Omaha, but winning the national championship, it’s doable, and I see it. I see it, there’s vision,” Jewett said.
