For a team that had the trademark on late inning heroics, there was none Sunday night in game 2 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional.

LSU left 12 men on base, including the bases loaded in the 8th and 9th innings, as Coastal Carolina beat LSU 4-3 to earn its first trip ever to the College World Series in Omaha.

Michael Paez’s game-winning hit, a chopper over the head of LSU third baseman Chris Reid, scored Anthony Marks with the walk-off game-winner in the bottom of the 9th.

Here’s what LSU head coach Paul Mainieri said about the season ending:

LSU tied the score on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Fraley in the top of the 9th. But, with no one out, the Tigers could not push across the go ahead run.

LSU ends the season with 45 wins, and 21 losses.
