Saints cornerback PJ Williams, who suffered a concussion Sunday against the Giants, is likely out for the season.

The Saints placed Williams on injured reserve. The transaction was listed on an NFL website.

Williams was injured in Sunday’s loss at New York. His head appeared to collide with linebacker Craig Robertson’s knee as the pair made a tackle.

Monday, head coach Sean Payton said Williams was headed home from New York, and that he was making progress.

Williams, a third round pick a year ago, missed all of 2015 with a torn hamstring.

Only one player placed on injured reserve can return this season. That is likely defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, who broke a fibula in training camp in West Virginia.

To take Williams’ roster spot, the Saints signed offensive tackle Tony Hills.
