For the second consecutive season, the Saints will open with a kicker who has never booted a field goal in NFL regular season play.
Tuesday, the Saints cut veteran kicker Kai Forbath, and signed Wil Lutz, an undrafted free agent who spent training camp with the Baltimore Ravens. Lutz will presumably be the 11th kicker the Saints have employed since Payton arrived in 2006.
Lutz was 2 for 3 in field goals in the preseason.
He’s the alltime leader in field goals made, extra points, and points at Georgia State.
The Saints host the Oakland Raiders Sunday.
