Alabama quarterback Mac Jones threw for 385 yards and four first half TD passes, 3 to Devonta Smith as top ranked Alabama cruised to a 55-17 win over LSU Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

Alabama led 45-14 at halftime.

Alabama scored TD’s on its first five possessions, and scored on all 7 of its first half possessions.

Jones threw TD passes of 65, 61, and 20 yards to Smith.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was asked if this was the worst defensive performance for his team this season.

“Their scheme is very good,” said Orgeron. “I am not discouraged at all.”

“We beat them last year because we had an excellent offensive scheme and a Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback.”

Najee Harris ran 21 times for 145 yards and TD runs of 14, 11, and 1 yards.

LSU scored on a fumble recovery in the endzone by Jontre Kirklin, and a 54 yard TD run by John Emery. The scores were the first for LSU against Alabama at Tiger Stadium since 2014. Kirklin’s recovery came after a 43 yard pass from quarterback TJ Finley to wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. Boutte dropped the ball at the one yard line. It rolled into the endzone where Kirklin recovered.

LSU quarterback TJ Finley started and completed 14 of 28 passes for 144 yards. LSU’s lone second half score was a 52 yard field goal by Cade York.

Alabama had 650 yards of offense, LSU had 352.

LSU, 3-5, plays at Florida next Saturday.

Alabama, 9-0, will play Florida in the SEC championship game December 19th.
