METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) – Montverde Academy, Fl. will take on Riverside Academy in The National Prep Classic Championship Saturday at the Alario Center.
Saturday’s championship game is setting up to be very competitive. Montverde needs to look out for Riverside’s senior guards Darrion Cook and Charvon Julien, who have both been hot during the tournament. Riverside defeated Natchitoches Central in a close game 70-68 on Friday.

In the semifinals, on Friday, Montverde and Edna Karr both fought hard for a trip to the championship.
Karr started out stingy on defense, battling every possession. They gave Montverde a run for their money, staying within 10 at halftime.
Karr’s Raekwon Bush kept things close scoring all 9 of his points in the second half while junior guard Diamante Woolridge stayed attacking all throughout the game, adding 8 points of his own.
However, the story of the second half was all about LSU Signee Ben Simmons, scoring 16 of his 24 points in the two-quarters. Montverde Academy would go on to defeat Karr by a score of 52-38. Much like in the previous game vs Helen Cox where he scored 33 points, Simmons was once again a force to be reckoned with.
Defensively, Montverde was stellar. Led by the 7’0 Wake Forest commit Doral Moore, who had 5 blocks by himself, the Eagles held Karr to only 38 points.
The Championship game is set to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday on the main court of the John A Alario Event Center.
Edna Karr and Natchitoches Central is set to square off for third place at 6:30 p.m. on the main court.
