WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) — The hometown favorite Riverside Academy fell short in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic Saturday night, losing to Montverde Academy after a hard-fought game.

Riverside lost by a score of 92-75, but the game was much closer than the final score.

The Rebels started out hot, holding the lead throughout most of the first quarter, however the late emergence of Ben Simmons proved to be too much for them to handle.

Riverside was led by standout guard Charvon Julien who scored a team high 21 points, as well as junior guard Malik Crowfield who was on fire from deep all game long, sinking five triples.

Montverde Academy’s length would eventually cause the rebels to struggle to score in the second half, and the scoring of the Eagles Ben Simmons and Marqez Lechter-Ellis ended up being too much for Riverside to handle.

Although they placed second in the tournament, Riverside Academy has a great group of players for this upcoming season and should be viewed as one of the better teams with a chance at a state championship.
