Why do the West St. John Rams play in Dinvaut Stadium?

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Rudolph Dinvaut was both an important coach and player in St. John Parish. Here’s the story behind why the Fighting Rams play in Dinvaut Stadium.

Rudolph Dinvaut led the Second Ward Eagles to back-to-back state championship titles in 1971 and 1972. Not only did those teams win titles, but they went undefeated in both seasons.

Second Ward High School would close down in the late 70s. Dinvaut was then named principal of then newly named West St. John High School.

Maybe one of the things he is most known for, Dinvaut coached Terry Robiskie, one of the most notable high school recruits to ever play football in Louisiana. Robiskie went on to play for LSU and is currently a wide receivers coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

As for Dinvauts biggest fans, there were none bigger than his wife and three daughters. His daughters Bonnie and Bridget said that being around football was a great way to grow up.

“He loved what he did. He enjoyed every minute of it, he enjoyed his players and everybody in this community.”

Dinvaut passed away in 2009, but still remains an iconic figure on the west bank of St. John Parish.
