NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Warren Easton Eagles (1-1) will face the McMain Mustangs (0-2) Friday night at Pan American Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Eagles are looking to bounce back after their loss to Evangel 21-6 last week in the Battle of the Border in Shreveport. Turnovers really did the Eagles in. They had six turnovers and 16 penalties for more than 100 yards. Turnovers were a point of emphasis for Warren Easton this week during practice.

“We worked on not turning the ball over. That was a big problem for us last week. We had a lot of turnovers and we struggled to execute offensively. So Coach Josh came in and he worked with our running backs for ball security. Coach Ike worked with our quarterbacks worked on their proper reads and not throwing interceptions. So those were our main focal points this week,” said Warren Easton head football Coach Tony Hull.

Yet, the Eagles defense forced seven turnovers against Evangel. They also had three interceptions.

The Eagles quarterbacks also focused on touchdown passes. Warren Easton has not scored a touchdown through the air this season. Coach Hull joked and said, for his health, he hopes that statistic will change Friday.

“If it doesn’t happen, I will be a very sick man. You may have to call the hospital to come check on me. It’s kind of unheard of after five years, two games we haven’t scored a touchdown through the air. But we think we have our execution problems fixed. So hopefully we can execute on Friday and be able to capitalize on opportunities we have against McMain,” said Coach Hull.

This is a non-district game between Warren Easton of District 9-4A and McMain of District 9-3A.

McMain is looking to get their first win of the season Friday. They loss their first two games in close outcomes. Last week, they fell to Helen Cox, 22-18. The Mustangs will look to better execute offensively like they did against Newman. Two weeks ago, Quarterback Darnell Williams finished with more than 460 yards of total offense. He threw three touchdowns and ran for two. But that wasn’t enough, as the Mustangs fell 46-36 in the non-district game.

The Mustangs haven’t started 0-3 since the 2009-2010 season.
