NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Tom B. Smith was a three-year football letterman for the LSU Tigers from 1929 to 1931.
Tom Smith hailed from Alexandria and graduated from Bolton High School. In 1933 he arrived at Terrebonne and became the school’s head football coach and later a supervisor.
Tom B. Smith Stadium was built in his honor in the 50’s, but it was much later in life when he met two of his closest friends, Jerry Starr and CJ Stoufflet.
“He got CJ involved in a fishing camp, and he felt like he needed a third guy involved and we started fishing together, 1969-1970 .. over that period of time Tom became a second father of me ..” Starr Said.
In 1974 Tom Smith told Star and Stoufflet that he was headed to MD Anderson in Houston for a check up. Smith later passed away in Houston during a heart procedure.
Tom B. Smith did it right, and for that the stadium at Terrebonne High School is named in his honor.
