NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Buddy Marcello, 90 years young, was the honorary captain for the Vandebilt Terriers in their season opener against E.D. White.

Marcello was a star athlete at Southwestern Louisiana where he played quarterback and first base.
After college, he was looking for a job. Divine intervention may have placed him at St Francis in Houma.

Marcello won a class A football title, and seven state baseball titles at St Frances, which later became Vandebilt Catholic.

He later coached at South Terrebonne, where he won 116 games.Marcello loved football, but baseball may have been his passion.

“I enjoyed baseball. I played and I loved baseball. It was easy to coach. I was lucky because when I started there, there four or five guys who loved to play baseball” he said.

Buddy Marcello beat Terrebonne 12 straight years, and, he`s still competing against father time. Coach Marcello stills drives. He is an ageless legend in Terrebonne Parish.
