NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – After both the Lions and Raiders came out victorious after week 1, the upcoming non-conference game between Archbishop Rummel and Covington is a promising one.

Both Rummel and Covington finished last season with tough playoff losses. Rummel had their great season ended by the now defending champion Jesuit Blue Jays while Covington lost in a lopsided game against West Monroe.

In their first game of the season, the Raiders started off slow but ended up winning by a comfortable score of 24-7 over University Lab last Friday. (See game highlights)

Rummel came into the game against Uni Lab  with one plan on offense: give the ball to running back  Israel Tucker. Tucker had his way with the University Lab defense, carving through the defense and punching a touchdown. Tucker wasn’t the only one who found success on the ground, as Rummel quarterback Chase Fourcade took a quarterback sneak 65 yards to the house.

Covington had their hands full in their first game of the season with a 14-6 defensive struggle against Franklinton. The Lions defense looked stout in their first outing of the season, allowing just 6 points from Franklinton and doing a good job bottling up explosive quarterback Tahj McGee.

With both teams coming off hard-fought victories, the matchup looks even more promising as the Raiders and Lions look to stay undefeated. The game kicks off Saturday, September 12th at 7 p.m.
