BATON ROUGE (WGNO) – LSU’s search for a new offensive coordinator may be nearing an end. Two sources tell WGNO Sports that Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Canada will visit Baton Rouge as early as Tuesday.
Earlier Monday, Fox Sports and USA Today reported that LSU was targeting Canada.
Canada’s Pittsburgh offense averaged 42.3 points a game this season, the 10th best in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
A source said Canada got the highest recommendation from LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.
A source said Canada was always high on the LSU’s list, and he went to the top of that list when Lane Kiffin accepted the head coaching position at Florida Atlantic.
What kind of offense will Canada run?
“He can run everything,” said an LSU source.
LSU is trying to hold a pair of quarterbacks that had previously committed. They are Myles Brennan of St Stanislaus, Mississippi and St James High School’s Lowell Narcisse.
Narcisse announced on Twitter Monday that he had de-committed from LSU.
Canada also served as offensive coordinator at North Carolina, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin.
At Wisconsin, the Badgers scored 70 points in the Big 10 championship game victory over Nebraska.
