LORANGER, La. (WGNO) – Deputies in Tangipahoa Parish are investigating the shooting death of a woman whose body was found early this morning on the side of a road in Loranger.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded about 4:20 a.m. to Briarpatch Cemetery Road, where they found 27-year-old Heather Cox dead.
Initially, deputies believed she could have been struck by a vehicle, but it turns out she was shot once in the upper torso.
While detectives were on the scene on Briarpatch Cemetery Road, there was another call about a vehicle fire on La. 1054 in Independence. A 2006 Nissan Sentra was found completely burned in a grassy area.
The burned vehicle has been linked to Cox’s death.
No arrests have been made at this time.
