NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) –  It’s happening at Whole Foods.

WGNO News with a Twist features reporter Wild Bill Wood says, of course it has to happen at Whole Foods.

That’s where Wild Bill found a lady named Mary Kay about to start snacking on her sushi.

And then along comes a lady named Leah.  Leah was about to take a big bite out of her burrito.

And then it happened.

Wild Bill says it can only be described as a culinary collision.

Mary Kay says, “you got your burrito in my sushi!”

Leah exclaims, “you got your sushi in my burrito!”

And just like that, the sushi burrito was born.

That’s a great story.  But the truth is the sushi burrito comes from California.

At the sushi station at Whole Foods, it’s being perfected by sushi master Victor Almeida.

Victor has moved the sushi burrito into tuna, salmon, shrimp, beef and veggie.

Victor packs the raw fish and veggies in and then rolls them up with rice.  Not a tortilla like a traditional sushi.  This one is rolled in rice.

Victor says it’s a big, fat burrito you can hold in your hands.  It’s in fact a meal you can hold in your hands.

Wait until you see and hear the reaction Wild Bill gets as he goes on a taste testing mission around Whole Foods.
