New Orleans (WGNO)- Candy corn is on the store shelves, skeletons dance along St. Charles Avenue, and the kids are sorting out what costume will garner the most candy. It’s Halloween season in New Orleans and that means it’s time for Voodoo Fest. Here’s some practical information to keep in mind if you’re heading to City Park this weekend.

1. Pace yourself.

It’s a three day festival with more than 65 bands and thousands of people. You can’t see, do or eat everything, so focus on what’s most important to you on any given day. Tickets are still available; single day General Admission tickets are $79 and a three-day GA pass is $165. Click here to purchase.  Stay hydrated and dress in layers.

2. Pack wisely.

A fanny pack or wristlet could do the job; don’t bring the kitchen sink with you. There will be ATMs onsite, but getting your cash ahead of time will save you minutes that could be spent watching a band–and bank fees. If you do feel overloaded, private locker rentals are available (near the front entrance of the fest) for $50. That gets you a safe place to keep your stuff for the entire weekend. If it’s something you’re sure about, reserve one online ahead of time.

3. Consider going cashless.

A credit or debit card can be linked to your Voodoo wristband, saving you time and hassle. Once you’re set up, your wristband can be used at all festival merchandise tents, bars, and food vendors on the grounds. Look for the Voodoo Cashless logo all over City Park. There are no extra charges or fees involved, and if you decide to go cashless after activating your wristband, no worries, the Wristband Activation tent can make it happen.

4. Designate a driver.

If you can’t work it out among your friends, plan to pay peak pricing for Uber, or possibly waiting a while for a cab. There’s also the Voodoo Shuttle, taking festival-goers from the Hyatt Downtown to City Park (and back) every 30 minutes starting at 11 a.m. Friday.  Buses will leave the Hyatt at the top of the hour and leave City Park at the bottom of the hour. The service runs until an hour after the final show of each night.

5. You can bring the kids.

Not only are kids allowed, they are free with a ticketed adult. So you don’t need the babysitter if you think your children can handle the Voodoo Experience. Cover little ears with headphones or carry several sets of earplugs. You are allowed to bring in one factory sealed bottle of water–and refill it for free at water stations throughout the fest. It’s important for music-lovers of every age to stay hydrated.

6. Leave the drone and the selfie stick at home!

No remote flying devices are allowed, and you’ll just have to take your selfie the old fashioned way, with your outstretched arm. Also on the ‘No Go’ list: umbrellas, outside drinks or food, professional recording equipment, tents or portable shade structures, skateboards, wagons, hammocks coolers, framed backpacks and spiked jewelry. Do not bring hairspray or sunscreen in a spray can, as aerosol containers are banned. Note: bicycles are not allowed inside the fest, but there is free parking near the entrance.

Wondering what you can bring? Blankets are good to go, as well as soft-frame chairs, non-professional cameras, binoculars, flags, totems and the type of backpacks used by third graders. If you must bring prescription medication, be sure you tote your matching ID. Do not mix pills in a container and bring only the appropriate amount of medication for the time you will spend at City Park.

Festival gates open at noon each day. You can find out more details, including the lineup, here.
