NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – “I wouldn’t wish no body to go through this. What I’m going through, I feel like a piece of me is gone and she’s not coming back,” says Ashley Moffett, the mother of 11-year-old Arabian Gayles as she tries to make sense of the chaos. Just yesterday she lost one of her babies after gunmen shot into her West Carrollton home.

Tonight hundreds surrounded the family with prayers and messages of hope. Little Arabian has become the second child killed in the city in less than a week. On Thursday 1-year-old Londyn Samuels was shot in her babysitters arms in Central City. Arabian’s family says she was killed as bullets pierced her home while she played video games on the couch just steps from the front door.

“Arabian Gayles is part of me. I can’t wake up every morning and her not sleeping next to me, waking up and not; she didn’t even make it to thirteen yet,” says Arabian’s sister, 13-year-old Sierra Gayles.

Sierra Gayles says she was at her cousins house when shots rang out. She says she asked Arabian to come with her, but the 11-year-old decided to stay behind.

“It’s not right and it’s not fair. My baby lost her life. She was innocent,” says Moffett as she pleads for the gunmen to come forward, “She didn’t do nobody nothing, nothing!”

The NOPD has yet to name any suspects.

Funeral arrangements are set for 11-year-old Arabian Gayles. Services begin at 10am next Saturday, September 14th, at Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ on Willow.
