Coroner: Baby died from gunshot wound during pursuit in Mississippi

UPDATE: A representative with the Harrison County Coroner’s office confirmed the baby died from a gunshot wound.

According to East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, Eric Smith entered a residence and shot his ex-girlfriend and her nephew, identified as Christin Parker and Brandon Parker.


At 2:52 p.m., the Biloxi Police Department received a call that the suspect had been located on I-10 in Mississippi heading east towards Gulfport. Once the pursuit reached Biloxi, the suspect drove into the grass median and was stuck.

As the suspect exited the vehicle, shots were fired.

Medical attention was given to the suspect but he died.

This is an ongoing investigation.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in a deadly shooting.

The suspect in this case is 30-year-old Eric Derell Smith.

Smith is accused of killing two unidentified people.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, “after shooting two individuals, the suspect is believed to have fled from the scene with his 4-month-old child.”

Smith is considered armed and dangerous, if you see the suspect please call law enforcement.
