NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – At 4 a.m. Central Time, Tropical Depression 16 formed in the Caribbean Sea off the northern coast of Panama. As of the latest advisory, 16 was upgraded by the National Hurricane Center  to Tropical Storm Otto, the 15th storm of the 2016 hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Otto is presently located at 4 PM Central time 315 miles east of Nicaragua, and its movement is presently stationary. Otto has sustained winds of 50 mph with a minimum central pressure of 1000mb. Otto is expected to move Westward and strengthen into a Hurricane where it may make landfall by Thursday along the coast of Nicaragua. There are no watches or warnings yet issued from this storm.

The last named tropical system to form in November was Hurricane Kate in 2015. Typically we see a November storm develop once every two years.

Otto is no threat to the United States.
