CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WGNO) – A candidate running for Tennessee’s 3rd congressional district is continuing to cause major controversy on Election Day with his campaign billboard that features his campaign slogan, “Make America White Again,” on prominent display in Cleveland, Tennessee.

The sign, located on 25th Street NW in front of the offices of the Cleveland Daily Banner, is almost identical to the billboard he put up over the summer in Polk County, Tennessee, that also caused quite a stir in the Southeast Tennessee community. Mounted on a trailer attached to a vehicle, the sign is intended to be driven around the district to promote the candidate, Rick Tyler.

Concerning the controversy over the summer, Tyler told WRCB-TV that he doesn’t hate “people of color,” but wants to return to a “1960s, Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver time when there were no break-ins; no violent crime; no mass immigration.”

“I don’t know how many millions of us there are but, I believe there are a lot of us; we believe that was a better America than the America we’re living in today,” Tyler claims.

Tyler is one of three independent candidates running for the seat now held by Chuck Fleischmann, a Republican, who faces both Republican and Democratic contenders.
