Senate bill 162 is waiting for Governor Bobby Jindal’s signature. It will block unmarried and gay couples in Louisiana from becoming surrogate parents.

The bill defines intended parents as “married persons.”

The surrogacy bill was approved by the Louisiana House of Representatives with a 87 to 8 vote on Sunday.
