NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — Women in 1940’s New Orleans knew what they wanted.  They wanted to drink!

It was a historic day in 1949, when a group of women forced the Sazerac Bar to grant them equal access to that of men.

Up until that day, women were only allowed inside on Mardi Gras.  They demanded the revered Sazerac, Ramos Gin Fizz and other cocktails that only men sipped– and they succeeded!

To mark the occassion, the Roosevelt New Orleans recreates that day to honor the revolutionary ladies, with the Stormin’ of the Sazerac.

The event kicks off at 1:00 p.m. in the Blue Room, where guests enjoy a three-course, ladies-only meal by Chef de Cuisine Cody Curl along with entertainment by Chance Bushman and the Rhythm Stompers.

The menu includes grilled New York Strip and Pan-Seared redfish and will conclude with a Sazerac-inspired lemon butter cake and whiskey mousse.

All attendees are encouraged to come in period attire.

A fashion show competition will pay tribute to the 1940s, with the winner receiving a one-night stay at The Roosevelt New Orleans and spa treatment at The Waldorf Astoria Spa.

This year, The Roosevelt New Orleans will present the inaugural “Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac” honoring one deserving woman in the New Orleans community.

The Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac is a woman embodying strength, determination and courageousness.  Similar to her fellow women in 1949, she carries a strong spirit for making a difference in the community.

Adding to the spirit of the event, the Fountain Lounge will also open its doors promptly at 1:00  p.m. and will give the first 25 women in costume an exclusive Stormin’ gift bag.

To honor the occasion, the Fountain Lounge will be offering half-priced Sazerac cocktails from 1:00–3:00 p.m., inviting ladies to toast while dancing to the music of Don Vappie Quartet.

Guests from the Fountain Lounge and Blue Room will unite at 3:00 p.m. to “storm” the Sazerac Bar.

Blue Room luncheon tickets are $49 each, excluding tax and gratuity.  Reservations can be made visiting http://www.therooseveltneworleans.com/specials-and-packages/stormin-of-the-sazerac.html or calling 504-335-3129.
