NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police released surveillance video on Monday as part of a theft investigation.

According to police, the lawnmower belonged to Goodwill and was being used on the City Park campus of Delgado Community College.

The footage shows students going about their day as a mower moves onto a sidewalk and then away from the scene.  At one point, the thief even appears to be leaning forward in an effort to reduce his wind drag and speed up his getaway.

Click on the video button above to see the footage.  The video originally released by police only lasts a total of about 7 seconds for both shots.  We’ve slowed it down to help you get a better look at the guy.  But even then, this case may hinge more on witnesses who can tell detectives more about the thief’s getaway than their ability to identify him from seeing the surveillance footage.

Police say the crime happened on April 22 at about 2:15 in the afternoon.  They know the thief rode away from the campus around Orleans Avenue and General Diaz Street.

If you can help solve this case, call Crimestoppers.  You could earn a $2,500 reward, and you don’t have to reveal your name or testify to collect the cash.

So far, more than 300 people have landed behind bars after their cases rolled on the Wheel of Justice.
