LAFAYETTE, La. (WGNO) – Capt. Clay Higgins, the outspoken, tough-talking former sheriff’s deputy from St. Landry Parish who made a name for himself as the “Cajun John Wayne,” will face former Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle in a runoff for Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District.

Higgins was best known for producing Crime Stoppers videos for KATC-TV3 in Lafayette. The videos went so viral that Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show said Higgins would make a good president.

Angelle, a Louisiana Public Service commissioner and former lieutenant governor who ran unsuccessfully for governor last year, received 29 percent of the vote, or 91, 374 votes. Higgins took home 26 percent, or 84,809 votes. The two were running against 10 other candidates to replace U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, who’s running for the U.S. Senate.

The runoff is Dec. 10.
