NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The city has fleets of cars and trucks, and all of them need gas.
But the newest audit from New Orleans Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux found that there’s not enough oversight of the money it takes to keep them on the road.
A new report found that city employees are sharing fuel cards; supervisors aren’t double-checking paperwork to catch suspicious or obviously wrong odometer readings, and there wasn’t any way to limit the amount of gas dispensed per transaction at city fueling stations – all opportunities for theft, Quatrevaux said.
