Planned Parenthood sues secretary of state Department of Health and Hospitals

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is trying to stop the loss of their Medicaid contract with the state.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Governor Bobby Jindal’s public war against Planned Parenthood has a new battlefront: the courtroom.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and three anonymous women have asked a federal judge to block the governor’s decision to end the group’s Medicaid contract with the state.

Planned Parenthood says the governor is violating federal law, which allows Medicaid patients to get care from providers of their choice.

Governor Jindal says patient care would not suffer without Planned Parenthood because there are many other Medicaid providers in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Those are the only two cities in Louisiana in which Planned Parenthood has a presence.
