NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Police are searching for a suspect accused of shooting a woman in the New Orleans’ Little Woods neighborhood Monday evening.

The New Orleans Police Department says 76-year-old Norman Smith is wanted on charges that include second-degree batter and simple abuse battery.

Police the incident happened just after 8:40 p.m. Monday in the 14000 block of Partridge Lane. It was there that responding officers located a 57-year-old woman on the scene suffering from a gunshot wound.

The woman was taken to the hospital by EMS but her condition was not released.

According to the NOPD, Smith and the victim were arguing when the woman reportedly tried to remove herself from the situation. The victim told detectives she heard a gunshot and realized she had been struck by gunfire.

We’re told the incident was domestic in nature.

Police say Smith fled the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla after the shot was fired. The car bears Louisiana license plates reading VXU057.
