NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On Friday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell, City officials, and community members held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the $7 million Lake Terrace and Oaks Group D project. The project began in July with excavation work on Oriole Street. It was designed by Mott MacDonald and was constructed by Boh Bros Construction Co, LLC. About four blocks of roadways were funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The reconstruction project improved neighborhoods in the area by replacing damaged underground water, sewer, and drainage lines, and repaving roadways and damaged sidewalks. Along with the physical improvements, city officials say the project brings capital improvement and creates thousands of construction jobs across the city.

“These are truly unprecedented times with the amount of roadwork currently in queue throughout the streets of the city, and more is coming our way,” said Mayor Cantrell. “We are on the front lines of climate change, and that’s what makes these investments so vital. The completion of these projects will help mitigate future flooding, particularly in District D. We have a lot to celebrate in this community, including these improvements and in how we are leveraging resources at the federal and local level.”

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Cantrell announced that 55 projects are underway in the city. There are five roadway projects under construction in District D valued at $67 million. Councilman Eugene Green, District D also attended the ceremony. Green said that with the improvements from the project, residents will be able to easily access their communities. The new improvements were also designed to reduce street flooding.

According to city officials, the Cantrell Administration has invested $875 million in roadway projects in the city since taking office in May 2018.
