USS Louisiana Mariners discuss submarine life with Brother Martin JROTC.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Some students at Brother Martin High School had special visitors on Friday. Four crewmembers from the USS Louisiana were on hand to meet with students from the Junior ROTC program.

The USS Louisiana is the fourth Navy ship to bear the name Louisiana. The crew was in New Orleans to represent the USS Louisiana during Carnival season. The crew met with the students to talk about life on a submarine, leadership, teamwork, and respect.

“This is an amazing opportunity for us to come and provide some mentorship, answer questions for thirsty and young NJROTC students and get them a chance to have their eyes wide open to what’s out there, what’s available for them and an opportunity to just talk about leadership which is always fun,” said Commander Josh Veney.

During their stay, the crew attended the Krewe of Carrollton ball at the Pontchartrain Center and were guest riders on  Lt. Gov Billy Nungesser’s float in the Krewe of Madhatter’s parade in Metairie for Family Gras.

The USS Louisiana is an Ohio class of ballistic missile submarine. The submarine has Louisiana and LSU memorabilia on the ship honoring our state.
