UPDATE: 8/9/2022 — The New Orleans Coroner’s Office released information on the identity of the victim on Tuesday, August 9. According to the autopsy results, the victim who died from the incident was 46-year-old Lamar Ford.


NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On August 5, the New Orleans Police Department began investigating a deadly shooting in the South 7th Ward. According to the NOPD, a 39-year-old man was shot and killed in the 1300 block of Elysian Fields Avenue. The incident happened around 11:30.

According to investigators, officers responded to the location and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his body. Emergency medical technicians pronounced the man dead on the scene.

The NOPD says that they will release the identity of the victim after an autopsy is conducted to determine the exact cause of death. The homicide is still under investigation at the time. Homicide Detective Shondell Fields is in charge of the investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
