NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell will hold a press briefing on Wednesday (Nov. 16) to update the public on what her administration is focusing on.
During the media briefing, Mayor Cantrell responded to allegations she spends too much time at the city-owned apartment in the Upper Pontalba and questions about her use of her security detail.
“It kind of freaks me out to see you quite frankly because you’ve been very inappropriate, in my opinion, but relative to your accusations, none of them add up at all,” Cantrell told a reporter. “In regard to my work for the City of New Orleans, it’s really unmatched.”
Cantrell went on to say she is not worried about the Public Integrity Bureau looking into the allegations.
“No, I welcome any investigation that are necessary to ensure that, one, I’m always above board and absolutely doing the city’s work,” the mayor said.
According to Cantrell, that work that includes making sure the city’s trash gets picked up.
“That’s exactly what my administration started, and we want to work to deliver results, and so with that, it’s on the city council’s side relative to whether they will fund what is needed to keep these contracts moving,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell also discussed her adversarial relationship with the city council and its impact on crime.
“I’m hoping for a more united relationship really with all branches of government, definitely that of the New Orleans City Council but unified around public safety,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell also says she and her administration want to focus on improving infrastructure as she completes her term next year.
