UPDATE: Lafayette High shelter in place status lifted, resuming normal dismissal

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A social media threat on Thursday prompted a lockdown on Lafayette High’s campus Friday morning.

According to Lafayette Police, LHS administrators were contacted around 11:13 a.m. on Friday by concerned students. The students referenced a threat on social media that happened on Thursday saying the suspect would be “shooting up LHS” on Friday.

Administrators contacted the Lafayette Police School Resource Officer who implemented safety protocols to ensure faculty and student safety. Assisted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette PD put the school on lockdown so that officers could determine that there was no imminent threat to campus. The school was later put into a shelter in place status while the investigation continued. Lafayette PD is working closely with LPSS in reference to this incident and investigation into the threat.

The school has been deemed safe and the shelter in place status has been lifted. Dismissal for the day will proceed as normal.

The incident is currently under investigation.
