6/30 UPDATE — On Thursday, the Kenner Police Department announced they made an arrest in this incident. A fifteen-year-old male is now in custody for his possible involvement in the shooting on Newport Place.

Police say the teen suspect was located at a residence in New Orleans. He was arrested without incident and is believed to be the sole perpetrator in this shooting.

WGNO also learned that the victim in this incident, a 13-year-old, underwent surgery and is now in the ICU. The victim is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police have not confirmed whether this shooting is connected to the shooting on Sunday, as originally believed. This remains an open investigation.

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — On June 29, the Kenner Police Department began investigating a shooting.

Around 9 a.m., Kenner Police responded to reports of gunfire in the back alley of the 1600 block of Newport Place, Kenner.

Reports show that a 13-year-old was shot multiple times and was in critical condition.

When police arrived at the location they reported that the victim was conscious and speaking but uncooperative with providing information.

Police believe that the shooting is related to another shooting that happened on Sunday.

On June 26, police responded to reports of gunfire at the same location around 11:45 p.m.

When police arrived multiple casings were located on the scene according to Kenner PD.

Shortly after receiving the report of gunfire officers located a sixteen-year-old juvenile blocks away from where the Newport Place gunfire happened.

Kenner PD said the juvenile was found to have a bullet graze wound to the arm and was in possession of a firearm.

The juvenile was arrested the following day and charged with RS 14:95.8 Illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Investigators believe that the shooting of the 13-year-old was a targeted shooting.

A search warrant relative to the shooting earlier this morning was executed at an address in the 1700 block of Vintage Drive.

Kenner Police said they have investigated reports of gunfire in and around the area of the apartments of Newport Place and 42nd Street, for months, executed several search warrants, and have made several arrests.

All of the arrests have involved the same core group of individuals, a large percentage of which are juveniles.

These shootings are ongoing investigations.
