MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) (June 15, 2021) — Brittnay Thompson is a mother of 3 and was leaving a pediatric appointment with her baby boy, Legend, in the back seat.
After the wreck, Brittnay is speaking out, exclusively to KTVE/KARD, about the incident and how her faith in God helped her over the last few days.
Brittany Thompson, mother of Legend, says, “I got 9 months with a baby, there’s women who can’t even get pregnant and there’s women who lose their baby as soon as they deliver. They’ve waited 9 months in their belly. I got 9 months in the belly and 9 months out. I want my son, but he wasn’t mine. He’s the Lord’s.”
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on June 10, Thompson and her son Legend were involved in an accident at the intersection of Sterlington Road and Magnolia Cove in Monroe.
According to a press release from the Monroe Police Department, a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup left the roadway and struck Thompson’s 2020 Toyota Four Runner, that was stopped at a stop sign.
“I was aware of what was going on, my face, my head was not impacted so I was alert and oriented. I never loss consciousness. I was able to help get my baby out of his car seat. So that everyone at the scene could start helping and save his life,” says Thompson.
Thompson’s 9 month old baby, Legend, suffered from serious injuries and later died at the hospital. Thompson’s friends say it was the bond between the two is what saved her life.
“Legend..um was impacted so hard that I believe he was probably brain dead at the scene,” says Thompson.
“She is shattered on her left side in her pelvis, but the reason why her upper body didn’t suffer trauma, is because she turned this way. The crash was on this side to protect her baby, so the protection of her baby saved her life, he saved her life,” says Kiersten Bradshaw, Brittany’s best friend.
Brittany tells us that the second the vehicle was struck, she started relying on her faith and praying immediately.
“I was praying in that seat. Minutes, seconds after I was impacted by the vehicle. I started praying immediately. I wanted to go to the only person that could save us, and that’s God,” says Thompson.
Thompson tells us that faith is the ultimate reason she knows her baby boy is sitting with Jesus.
Thompson went on to say, “In the darkest times we should, and I will, always give Him the praise cause the God I read about in my Bible is good. And if He says that He is good and these are promises, then I know that this wasn’t a mistake, and um my baby is with Jesus.”
While she lost her only son, Thompson found the biggest way to love Legend, was by saving other babies.
“His father and I decided that we wanted him to be an organ donor so we went through all the works to get that happen and prayed really hard that somebody needed what he has,” said Thompson.
“He saved 3 lives, three other babies lives. he gave his heart, he gave his liver, and kidney. and she so hopped he could give his heart and at first he wasn’t going to be able to and then at the last minute, they said we have a match for his heart, so now she will be able to hear that heart again one day,” says Bradshaw.
Legend, a name he’s already fulfilled, only being alive for 9 months.
Thompson’s friend Lyndsay Williams says, “As young as he was, he was so contagious, like he walked into a room and everybody was like ‘can I have him, can I have him’ and Brittnay is so generous, she shared him with everybody.”
When asked what her last words to Legend would be, Thompson says, “You got to see Jesus. You got to worship Him and you were at His feet and the glory that God got when He got his son back. Thank you for letting me be your mommy.”
Now, the family is asking for continued prayers and thoughts as they work through this tragedy.

MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) (June 14, 2021 6:07 p.m.) — The Monroe Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that resulted in the death of an infant.
According to Monroe Police, the crash took place on June 10 shortly before 2:30 P.M. at the intersection of Magnolia Cove and Sterlington Road. While at a stop sign, a 2020 Toyota 4 Runner was struck by a 2007 Ford F-150 pick-up truck after it left the roadway.
The driver of the 2020 Toyota 4 Runner and a 9-month-old were transported to a local hospital where the infant died from their injuries.
The 17-year-old driver of the 2007 Ford F-150 was cited for No Registration and Careless Operation.
The toxicology results are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
