Father Michael Jaques was admitted to the hospital Thursday suffering from a heart attack.
The archdiocese confirms he died last night.
In a statement Mayor Mitch Landrieu praised Father Jaques.
“For decades Father Mike faithfully served St. Peter Claver Parish and tirelessly advocated for the Treme neighborhood.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond announced there will be an evening vigil service for Father Jaques next Friday.
The funeral service will be the following Saturday.
Both will be at St. Peter Claver Church.
