NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – World War II vet and Katrina survivor Edward Lee has a new home! The Saint Bernard Project demolished his home last fall, rebuilt it, and now Lee is going to move into this new beautiful house.
The 94-year-old has lived in this neighborhood on Sullen Place in the West Bank for years. He actually built the house that used to be on this lot, but his home was badly damaged following Hurricane Katrina.
However, he continued living there. Lee told us he’s very grateful for the new home.
“It’s phenomenal my feelings, I’m excited! It’s the greatest thing to happen to me in my life and I thank you and I thank the lord getting a roof over my head. I thank you so much from the bottom of my heart,” said Lee.
The Saint Bernard Project stepped in last year, as a part of their “16 in 16” project, a campaign where they seek to raise funds to rebuild disaster-damaged homes for 16 U.S. Military Veterans across the country.
Lee will officially move into this house later this week.
