NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Local nonprofit Levees.org, best known for its work in bringing to light the failures of levees that caused catastrophic damage during Hurricane Katrina, is on a new mission to build a unique museum in Gentilly.
Levees.org president Sandy Rosenthal said in a press conference today that the group will open a museum inside a home on Warrington Drive to memorialize the storm and the aftermath.
The plan to open a museum is pending approval from the City Council. The City Planning Commission will take up the permit application at its meeting Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
“The house will become an authentic museum just a stone’s throw from a levee breach site,” Rosenthal said. “Everyone – especially the survivors of the flood – deserve this flooding artifact.”
