SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – Officers at the Slidell Police Department have been growing beards all month for ‘No-Shave November,’ the annual event to raise awareness for prostate cancer. But there’s a problem. They’re not ready to part ways with their beards come December 1. Thanks to thousands of fans, they might not have to.
The police department posted a photo gallery Sunday on Facebook asking their fans to ‘like’ their beards.

It took less than 24 hours for them to reach their goal with flying colors. As of Monday at 4:30 p.m., the post had received 4,542 likes and was shared 546 times.
At the beginning of November, Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith approved that officers can stop shaving for the month of November if they pledge to donate $25 to an organization that promotes cancer awareness, research, or support. The deadline looms for all officers to shave off their facial hair, which is December 1st. If we get enough support from our community, Chief Smith said that the officers can keep their facial hair for another month, but have to pledge another $25. So far, Slidell Police have raised close to $1,000.
“The idea is to raise awareness for men’s health concerns, particularly prostate cancer, where one in six men will be diagnosed in their lifetime with the disease,” says Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.
