State Police release surveillance photos of Baton Rouge gunman

BATON ROUGE (WGNO) – State Police has released photos from surveillance video that shows Gavin Long before and during the ambush that killed three officers in Baton Rouge and left three others wounded.

“Our hearts are broken but our spirit is intact,” State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said at a press conference Monday afternoon. “Our soul has survived an unthinkable crime committed against this community.”

Edmonson said the investigation is ongoing, but State Police still believe Long was the only shooter at the scene.

He said he believes Long had been in the Baton Rouge area for several days.

Long rented a car in Kansas City, Missouri. The rental car was found at the scene, along with three firearms – an SAR, 5.56 caliber rifle, a 9 mm caliber pistol and a 5.56 caliber rifle that was staged at the vehicle.

Baton Rouge Police officers Montrell Jackson and Matt Gerald and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s deputy Brad Garafola were killed in the attack. Three other officers were shot. Two sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The other is still in critical condition.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
