SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – A Slidell High School girls basketball coach faces numerous sex-related charges after police discovered nude photos and videos of students on his cell phone. Investigators say interviews with the victims also revealed that some students had sexual intercourses with the former teacher.
Slidell Police received a complaint from the St. Tammany Parish school system last Wednesday (March 9) about a teacher, Raymond Winzy, 34, having inappropriate contact with a female student.
During a week-long investigation, detectives discovered that Winzy was having inappropriate conversations via text message, and through social media, with students. Investigators also found nude photos and videos of students, all underage, on Winzy’s personal cell phone.
Authorities say several forensic interviews were conducted with the victims. All of them said Winzy was inappropriate with them, and some stated that they had sex with him.
Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith believes there are more victims because Winzy taught and coached at multiple schools across the New Orleans Metro area.
“If there are additional victims, we are asking them to please come forward to police,” said Chief Smith.
Police are working to confirm all of Winzy’s former places of employment.
“Student safety is our top priority. As soon as the allegations were brought to our attention, we notified the Slidell Police Department,” said STPPS Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III.
“I am extremely disturbed by these charges and our school system remains committed to working with police investigators. I am grateful to the Slidell Police Department for their swift action and their efforts to protect children in our community.”
At this stage of the investigation, Winzy is being charged with: two counts of molestations of a juvenile by an educator, nine counts of production of child pornography, and three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
As the investigation continues, Winzy could face additional charges.
Chief Smith says, “It’s bad enough when someone takes advantage of a child, but it’s ten times worse when it is someone in a position of public trust, in this case, a teacher. It is disgusting. Let this serve as a strong message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in our community or our schools. If you use your position of power to take advantage of someone, you can expect to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We will not tolerate it.”
