SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – After being in a coma for nearly three days, detective John Cole died Wednesday afternoon.

Cole and his friend Daniel Hanlon were involved in a single vehicle crash in St. Tammany Parish Sunday LA 433 east.

Cole has left behind hundreds of loving friends, his parents, a wife, and two beautiful daughters; aged 4 and 6 months.

“The upcoming days are going to be rough for all of us, but we will get through it. I want to thank the community for their overwhelming show of support for these two men who dedicated their lives by helping others,” Chief Randy Smith said.

The Slidell Police Department is asking for your support and prayers be focused on the families of John Cole and Daniel Hanlon.

Both Cole and Hanlon were very involved in the Slidell community; Cole a public servant and Hanlon as a teacher/coach at Salmen High School.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Hanlon. Services will be held Thursday September 11th.
