JEFFERSON PARISH – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has captured an inmate who escaped while being transported earlier today.
Thirty-nine-year-old George Bethea escaped by climbing out of the window of a patrol car around 11 a.m., according to police. Helicopters, dogs, and drones were deployed in the search.
Officers found Bethea hiding in a shed in the 1200 block of Dolhonde Street just before 1 p.m. He had originally escaped near the intersection of the Westbank Expressway and Dolhonde Street, about a block away from where he was found.
Bethea was originally arrested for multiple warrants, including misdemeanor theft and domestic violence offense, according to the JPSO. He will now also face one simple escape charge.
