MANDEVILLE, LA (WNGO) — Saint Tammany Parish leaders announced on Wednesday, August 17, that the parish would begin a program called STPCares.  The program will combine parish government workers with those at the school district, coroner’s office, sheriff’s office, business and economic groups, and the homebuilder’s association.

By pooling resources, the parish hopes to help those affected by the recent floods to recover faster and stronger than if they were using isolated efforts.

In a written announcement of the new program, Parish President Pat Brister made this statement:

“While in a Bible study, we started talking about our community and our residents coupled with the surrounding communities, and we knew we had to offer help.  We, as Louisianans, do not sit idly by as our neighbors struggle. When we are faced with this level of destruction and loss, our people seek to lighten the burden when we can. We step in if we are able, and those of us who were spared, help the broken become whole again.”
