NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department says a pedestrian was hit and killed on I-10 Tuesday night. Police closed the interstate to all westbound traffic by the I-610 split.

The pedestrian was hit a little before 8:00. According to police, he was trying to cross I-10 when he was hit by a car which left the scene.

Police say the man landed in the roadway and was then hit by at least one other car. The driver of a second car did remain on the scene, according to the NOPD.

Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.

As of Tuesday night, police did not have a description of the car that they say left the scene.
